Two rare original, maximum-performance Corvettes will cross the Vicari Auction
block later this month.
Stored for decades, a pair of classic unrestored Fuelie Corvettes in original condition - a big-brake '62 and a real Z06-optioned '63 split window coupe) - are being auction by Vicari. They have been stored in Texas by a serious collector since the 1980s. Both vehicles will cross the block during ‘13 Cruisin' Nocona, a north Texas collector car auction and classic car poker cruise set for April 19th and 20th in historic Nocona, TX.
The RPO-687-optioned ‘62 Corvette has less than 60,000 miles, and is one of only 254 "Big Brake" cars to roll off the St. Louis line that year. "Big Brake," which is an enthusiast's term
for RPO (Regular Production Option) 687, refers to Chevrolet's racing package which
includes 360-horsepower FI 327 V8, above, four-speed, heavy-duty shocks, fast steering adapter, finned brake drums with metallic linings, cooling fans and vented backing
plates with attached air scoops.
Its first owner painted it British Racing Green and driven by the current owner while in college and painted black before putting it into storage. It still has its original transmission, 4.56 Posi rear and folding soft-top and hardtop.
Also well documented and original, the ‘63 split window Z06 Corvette, above, below, was purchased by the current owner in Houston in the 1980s. One of only 199 Z06 Coupes produced in 1963, (all of powered by 360-horsepower Rochester fuel-injected 327 engines, four-speeds and Big Brakes), this split-window Sting Ray has just 38,000 original miles and its original black interior. Its been repainted once and only the mechanical change believed to
be made is a different master cylinder.
"Both vehicles are in excellent condition and any collector of classic Corvettes will find them to be highly sought-after," said Pete Vicari, president, Vicari Auction Company.
