Ottokar Jacobs, Vienna, Austria & Sarasota, Florida, wins Two-Liter Prototype class in his 910 at the 18th Annual Vernasca Silver Flag hillclimb, Piacenza, Italy.
At the Ollon-Villars hillclimb, which counted towards the World Sportscar Championship (WSC) in 1967, Ottokar Jacobs’ iconic Porsche 910 was driven to First Place honors by Gerhard Mitter. Rolf Stommelen drove his 910 to a Second; beating out Herbert Muller driving his V12 Ferrari P. Mitter had been the European hillclimb champion in this 910 in 1966. This year, Jacobs, above & right, won his class at the Silver Flag hillclimb.
Porsche built fewer than 30 910s in 1966-1967 for endurance racing and hillclimbs and Jacob’s ex-Mitter 910 is one of three known to have been built with a V8 engine. It replaced the 906. Weighing in at 1,320 pounds, this 910, officially referenced by Porsche as the 906/10, is powered by the 270 horsepower, four-cam 2.2-litre V8.
