Limited edition Fiat 500 breaks cover at the start of the 2012 Mille Miglia.
The Fiat Topolino (mouse) has come a long way since its humble beginnings as an econo minicar. Powered by a 180 horsepower, 1.4-Litre Turbo T-jet 16-valve engine, the new limited edition (499 vehicles) Abarth 695 Maserati Edition will debut at the thirtieth anniversary of the Mille Miglia, which Enzo Ferrari called “the most beautiful race in the world.” It will be displayed at Piazza della Loggia in Brescia, surrounded by collectors’ automotive jewels and contemporary luxury cars. It represents the bond between Abarth and Maserati and is based on a host of shared values, including attention to detail, elegance and a passion for performance and sport.
Painted Maserati Pontevecchio Bordeaux, the new Abarth 695 Maserati showcases the spirit of Karl Abarth and Alfieri Maserati: two legends, united by passion for mechanics and engines, who lent their names to two of the most prestigious companies to manufacture stylish performance cars. It features exclusive style details and technical features developed by Abarth engineers for Maserati. The 180 horsepower 1.4 Turbo T-Jet 16v engine is mated to an electrically operated Abarth Competizione manual gearbox with steering wheel controls.
To improve performance the car is fitted with speed-rated high-performance tires on 17-inch alloy wheels. Ride and braking systems have also been upgraded to handle the extra power: Brembo 305-mm disc brakes with four-piston calipers and special Koni shocks. It wouldn’t be complete without the Abarth variable backpressure “dual mode” exhaust system with Maserati style hexagonal tailpipes. Exhaust mods improve engine performance and deliver an inspiring sound above 3,000 rpm. It has a top speed of 140 mph and will sprint to 62 mph in 7.0 seconds.
Each Abarth 695 Maserati comes with exclusive interior trim, graphics and comes with a number plate (1 to 499). Standard equipment is a boosted JBL audio system with nine speakers and an eight-channel 400-watt amp. Seats are unique to this model. It will be sold primarily in European markets.
