Classic Driver’s Jan Baedeker drives the latest tropical storm to hit Miami.
Miami-Dade county officials joined forces with Lamborghini to host the intro and high-speed demo of the new Aventador LP 700-R roadster. The venue: a runway at Miami International Airport! Five new LP 700-4 Roadsters sped down the south runway of the busiest airport for international flights in the U.S.
With special authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) and Miami- Dade County, the roadsters, for the first time ever, exceeded the passenger airliner takeoff speed
on a runway - between 150 mph and 180 mph. No current jet aircraft reaches 210 mph
on the ground, the clocked speed of the 700-horsepower roadsters during the
closed-course drive demonstration.
